Topic 1: TO BE

In English, the verb to be means ser as well as estar, and this fact makes things a little bit easier. The inflection of the verb to be in simple present tense, for different subject pronouns, is as indicated by the following chart:

Uses
With a noun:
·       I am a teacher.
·       You are not a student
·       Is she a doctor?

With a preposition of place or a site:
·       He is in New York.
·       We aren’t at the home.
·       Is the pincel on the table?

With an adjective:
·       They are happy
·       She isn’tsad.
·       Are you tired?
